Do you all know how much of a worry wart I am? No, really. I am constantly worrying. I worry about my health, my families health, our finances, or whether or not we will ever own a home. I worry about driving to the grocery store. I worry about being on a plane…which, hello, shakes! I worry about the clothes that we put on. I worry about thunderstorms. I worry about the weirdest things you can think of. I worry. Though the Lord has helped me tremendously in this area. He’s given me grace and sought me through fears. He always shows himself consistently faithful. Why should I worry then if God is always showing himself faithful? Well, because I am merely just flesh and my flesh fails.
I love being out in creation. I truly believe that being out in creation draws you closer to God who is King of Creativity. It’s good for the soul to be outside and enjoy the beautiful world he created. Before my engagement shoot yesterday, I took my kids on a walk to the playground. On our way back, we kept seeing dozens of caterpillars. Back in my non-worrying days, I’d be outside all the time looking for caterpillars or roly-polies or any other insect, frog, or other creepy crawly things I could get my hands on. Now, I won’t touch the things because…frogs = warts, caterpillars = some kind of rare cancer, and roly-polies = death. Anyway, I decided to put my big girl pants on (err…little girl pants on) and show my daughter that there’s nothing to be scared of with caterpillars. Though the jury is still out on roly-polies. So we went caterpillar hunting around our house with a jar, some sticks, and some leaves. We found three of them! I’m pretty sure they are probably dead by now. All of the caterpillars I caught when I was younger died immediately too. None of them turned into butterflies, poor things.
It was so fun to be outside with my daughter enjoying creation. It prepared my soul and spirit well for my engagement shoot. I loved showing her how God created the caterpillars to turn into butterflies. I’m hoping they stay alive so she can see what I was talking about.
Anyway, it seems like this blog has about 3 different stories and points…it does, but stay with me. 🙂
The lovely field that we met on for this engagement shoot was basically covered with dandelion fuzz. How fun are these flowers…er weeds? And how creative is God to place a somewhat ugly flower in the ground, give it a bright, pretty color and then when it dies, creates a soft fuzz that makes us want to blow on them just to see them dance. And how creative is God to create an ugly insect, have it make a cocoon and turn itself into a beautiful butterfly!
When I worry, I’m often draw to the passage Matthew 6:28-33, “And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like on of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore, do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your Heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
I just love how we are compared to the grass of the field. The field we were in last night was so gorgeous with all the golden light coming through. The dandelion fuzz was a perfect addition! God clothed that field because he cares for his creation. He cares for me more than he cares for the grass of the field because he is my Heavenly Father. What a sweet reminder we have when looking at the dandelion fuzz (I really don’t know the technical name of a dying dandelion).
